Google has a list of tricks that not everyone knows – at least, not many know them all. The giant search engine can be used for lots of activities other than simple searches. It’s a very smart search engine that knows just about everything somebody would want to know. Below is a top 10 list of Google tricks.

- Track an airline flight. Type in the airline name and flight number to see the status of a flight and the arrival time.
- Track shipments and packages. Enter a UPS, USPS or FedEx tracking number to get a direct link to the shipment.
- Pages linked to your page. See who is linked to your site by typing in “link:www.your URL.com” and see all the linked pages.
- Find certain file types. Type in your search query with this after it: file type: PDF. It will show all the PDF files and manuals on that topic.
- Use Google as a calculator. Type in the equation or math problem and get the answer.
- Stocks. To get a fast stock quote price, chart and other related links, just type in the stock symbol. To get stock information for Microsoft, simply type in msft and Google will display the information wanted.
- Define any word by typing the word and then typing define with a colon. e.g. define: mastic.
- Use Google local for local searches. Local.google.com. Type in what is wanted, for example typing in “restaurant” in Google local would give a list of all restaurants in the local area being searched.
- Phone number lookup. Anyone can enter a phone number complete with area code to find out the city it came from, and sometimes the name and address associated with that number.
- The weather. Type “weather” followed by a zip code or city and state to see what the weather’s going to be like at any given time.
