Google TV is the latest tool from Google to take over the home entertainment centers. It is and internet controlled TV platform that is meant to change forever the face of home entertainment. This internet television platform is created by Google in collaboration with Logitech, Sony and Intel. It is run on the same operating system found in many smart phones, Android based. It is meant to change the way people see television. It was launched on October 10′. The major supporters of Google are Logitech and Sony who have already released products in the market based on these systems. Google does not manufacturer any units with Google TV on its own. It is essentially just the software part of internet connected televisions.
Google has let the Android based operating system open for use by developers who can design all kinds of software for this platform. Many paid applications such as netflix and hulu have been created for this platform that let users to view streamed content on their television screens. The whole system is easy to understand by the software developers since it is based on the popular platform of Android. Google has tried to integrate both the conventional platform and the internet television. It also has the chrome browser which gives full access to the internet. There is a full qwerty keypad provided with the remote unlike the minimalist keyboard found in Apple iTV. Currently only three products based on Google TV platform have been developed. The Sony Internet TV, Logitech Revue and the Sony Internet TV bluray. Other developers who have jumped on the band wagon arte Vizio and Toshiba. It is the selfish nature of Apply to curb the use of its software only on its devices, leaving other developers to opt for Google for their software needs.
